The latest updates on information selling and running an online infoproduct business

Watch your keywords for your infoproducts

Even though you may have produced an information product which people want, they may not always find your web sales page. Clearly, you should have organised things to use the relevant keywords which are being used. But don't assume that once you have set up your web page that's the end of your tasks and you can sit back and rake in the profits.

Keywords change over time. For instance, 'sending messages' became 'instant messaging' which became 'IM'. The process of keyword change can be quite rapid, so if you don't constantly monitor the keywords you use, using WordTracker for instance, your web site success could be reduced. So, always keep a watching eye on your keywords and make changes to your web pages as the keywords change and evolve.

Why the word 'ebook' isn't always suitable

When is a book not a book? No it's not a riddle, but an important question. The reason it is important is because it determines how your customers will value your material. People tend to value a 'book' much less than a 'manual'. Equally, they tend to value a 'manual', less than 'coaching'. So what if your 'book' helps 'coach' people through something, as in a 'how to' guide? If you pitch it as a 'book', you will need to charge less than 'coaching'. Hence the word you use to describe your information is important in determining how much your customers are prepared to pay for it.

In the online world, this is equally important. The problem is that the word 'ebook' is too close to 'book'. Hence if you have information which is valuable, calling it an 'ebook' is already diminishing it in the eyes of your potential customers. Hence you will not be able to charge as much as you would like. Choosing the name for the kind of information products you offer is essential in helping increase your profitability.
